Privacy policy

The short version: there are no accounts, we never ask for your name or email, and your reading progress stays in your own browser. Everything else is below, in plain words.

Last updated 3 October 2026

Who we are

Nitya (getnitya.com) is a free website for reading and reciting Hindu devotional texts. For any privacy question, write to corrections@getnitya.com.

What we do not collect

There are no accounts and no sign-up forms. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number or exact location, and we do not sell or rent any information about you.

What stays on your device

To remember your settings and progress, Nitya saves small notes in your browser’s local storage. They stay on your device and are never sent to us. You can remove all of them at any time with “Clear my data” on the Me page, or by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.

Hosting and security

The site is served by Cloudflare. Like every web host, Cloudflare handles technical details such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages and to block attacks. We do not use this to identify you. Cloudflare’s privacy policy: www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy

Visitor counts (analytics)

To count visits we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookies, uses no local storage and does not follow you to other websites. We see totals only, such as how many people opened a page and from which country.

Google Analytics is not in use at the moment. If we turn it on, this page will say so first, and in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it will store nothing until you agree.

YouTube recordings

Some texts offer a recording to listen along with. Nothing loads from YouTube until you tap play. The player then loads from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, and from that point YouTube’s terms (www.youtube.com/t/terms) and Google’s privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy) apply to that player.

Advertising (applies when ads are shown)

Ads are not shown on Nitya at the moment. This section explains what will apply once they are.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com). You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info (www.aboutads.info/choices).
  • How Google uses information from sites that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites

Where ads may appear: below the page header, after a text ends, and between sections of long texts. Never between the lines of a prayer, never in recite or darshan mode, and never as pop-ups.

If we add another ad partner, such as Journey by Mediavine, we will name it here before its ads appear.

Your choices in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google tags start with advertising and analytics storage switched off. A consent message from Google’s certified consent platform asks for your choice before any ad cookie is used. If you say no, you may still see ads, but they will not be personalised. You can change your choice at any time.

Your rights

We do not keep personal data about readers, so in most cases there is nothing for us to show, correct or delete. Your saved settings are on your own device. For data Google holds for ads, use Google’s settings linked above. If you have emailed us and want that email deleted, ask at corrections@getnitya.com.

When you email us

If you write to us, for example to report an error, we use your email only to reply and to keep a record of the fix. We name you in the corrections log only if you ask us to. We delete your email on request.

Children

Nitya is for a general audience, and children often read it with their family. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 (under 16 in the EEA and the UK). If you think a child has sent us personal information, write to corrections@getnitya.com and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

When something on this page changes, we update the date at the top. If a change affects what is stored or shared, we will say so on this page before it takes effect.
