Open data
Every text on Nitya is available as a small JSON file, one per text and script, free to use. This page explains the format, the licence and how to credit us.

Where the files are
Each file lives at /data/(deity)/(text)/(script).json on getnitya.com. For example:
https://getnitya.com/data/hanuman/chalisa/dev.json
Scripts: dev (Devanagari), roman (Roman (easy)), iast (IAST (scholarly)), te (Telugu), ta (Tamil), kn (Kannada), ml (Malayalam), gu (Gujarati), bn (Bengali).
Format
Each file is one JSON object. "s" is the script id, "lang" is the language tag for that script, and "v" maps each verse id to its lines ("l") and, where we have a word-by-word gloss, the word forms ("w"). Verse ids match the verse page addresses, for example chaupai-12.
{ "s": "dev", "lang": "hi", "v": { "doha-1": { "l": ["…", "…"], "w": ["…"] } } } Licence
The sacred texts themselves are traditional and in the public domain (Public Domain Mark 1.0). The JSON files hold only the text: lines and word forms in each script. You may use them for any purpose.
Licence: Our meanings, notes and summaries, shown on the text pages, are our own work. They are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0): temples, schools, Bal Vihar classes, families and students may copy, print and share them with credit. Commercial use, such as republishing them on a site with ads, needs our written permission.
Please credit us
If you use these files, please credit “Nitya (getnitya.com)” and link to the text page, so readers can find corrections. If you find an error, tell us at corrections@getnitya.com and we will fix it for everyone.
Gentle use of the server
The files are static and cached. Please cache them on your side too, and avoid downloading the whole set more than once a day.
