Sri Venkatesa Suprabhatam
श्री वेंकटेश सुप्रभातम्
The Sri Venkatesa Suprabhatam is the dawn hymn that wakes Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala every morning, and it is traditionally played or recited before sunrise. Its 29 Sanskrit shlokas were composed in the 15th century by Prativadi Bhayankaram Annan, and it opens with Vishvamitra's words to young Rama from the Ramayana, "Kausalya supraja Rama". This page has these 29 shlokas; the Stotram, Prapatti and Mangalasasanam that follow in the morning recitation are not here yet.

Questions
What time should Suprabhatam be played or recited?
Early morning, ideally in Brahma muhurta, about an hour and a half before sunrise. At Tirumala it is sung before dawn to wake the Lord. At home many families play or recite it after their bath, before the day begins. If you wake later, reciting it in the morning with devotion is still good.
Who wrote the Venkateswara Suprabhatam?
Prativadi Bhayankaram Annangaracharya, lovingly called Annan, a 15th-century Sri Vaishnava scholar and disciple of Manavala Mamunigal. Only the first verse is older. It comes from Valmiki's Ramayana, where the sage Vishvamitra wakes young Rama with the words "Kausalya supraja Rama".
How many shlokas are in the Venkateswara Suprabhatam?
29, and the last one is the phalashruti. That is the part on this page, and it takes roughly 10 to 12 minutes. The full morning recitation adds three more hymns by the same poet, the Venkatesa Stotram (11 verses), the Prapatti (16) and the Mangalasasanam (14), which makes about 70 verses in the common edition. Those three are not on this page yet.
What are the benefits of listening to Suprabhatam daily?
Tradition says that remembering the Lord at dawn through this hymn brings a calm, clear mind, and its last verse speaks of the highest wisdom. Many families feel it gives the day a peaceful, auspicious start at home. These are devotional beliefs, not promises.
Is Suprabhatam sung at Tirumala every day of the year?
Almost. During Dhanurmasa (the Tamil month of Margazhi, roughly mid-December to mid-January), Tirumala sings Andal's Tiruppavai instead. Many families do the same at home and go back to the Suprabhatam when the month ends.

Opening verse from Valmiki Ramayana, Bala Kanda 23.2. Where editions differ we follow the majority reading: 9 तन्त्रीप्रकर्ष (not प्रहर्ष) and करचाररम्यं (not करचारु); 14 हरविरिञ्चि (some print विरिञ्च); 17 महिमाधिकम् (some print महिमादिकम्); 24 परश्वथ (sanskritdocuments has परश्वध); 25 सुगन्धि (stotranidhi has सुगन्ध); 27 मुखास्त्वथ (variant मुखास्तव). The double avagraha (ऽऽ) some editions print in 14 and 19 is omitted, which is standard orthography and does not change the sound. Meanings are Nitya's own.
