About Jai Ambe Gauri

Jai Ambe Gauri is sung in homes and temples across North and West India and in the diaspora, most of all during the nine nights of Navratri and at Durga Puja. At many Navratri gatherings it is sung before the garba begins. It follows the 'Om Jai' aarti tune, and its last stanza carries the signature of Swami Shivanand, to whom tradition credits the aarti. It is a different aarti from 'Ambe Tu Hai Jagdambe Kali'.

Questions

Is this the same Jai Ambe Gauri that is sung in Hindi?

Yes. These are the same Hindi words, written in Bengali letters so you can read them aloud. It is a transliteration, not a translation into Bengali. The meaning of each verse is given in English.

How was the Bengali text prepared?

We keep one checked Devanagari edition (Traditional Hindi aarti (signature: Shivanand Swami) as printed in popular aarti-sangrah booklets; text cross-checked against Drik Panchang (Hindi) and BhaktiBharat.com) and write it in Bengali letters with fixed spelling rules, so every verse matches the original letter for letter. The English-letter line is the common singing spelling.
