About Lakshmi Chalisa
Like the Hanuman Chalisa, Lakshmi Chalisa is written in the doha-chaupai metre of Awadhi devotional poetry. It is a later folk composition, and the closing lines carry the name Ramdas, which is all we know of its poet. The first part praises Lakshmi as Mother of the world, recalls the fourteen treasures of the churning of the ocean, and says that whenever Vishnu is born on earth she comes with him, as Sita when he came as Ram. The second part describes the blessings tradition attaches to reading it, including a forty-day recitation, and ends with the poet's own plea for mercy.
Questions
Is this the same Lakshmi Chalisa that is sung in Hindi?
Yes. These are the same Awadhi words, written in Malayalam letters so you can read them aloud. It is a transliteration, not a translation into Malayalam. The meaning of each verse is given in English.
How was the Malayalam text prepared?
We keep one checked Devanagari edition (Shri Lakshmi Chalisa as printed in popular aarti-chalisa booklets; text compared line by line across BhaktiBharat.com, AstroSage, Shubh Panchang (shubhpanchang.com), sanskritdocuments.org (laxmi40.itx) and Bharatkosh (bharatdiscovery.org). No Gita Press printing was available to us.) and write it in Malayalam letters with fixed spelling rules, so every verse matches the original letter for letter. The English-letter line is the common singing spelling.
