ਰੋਗ-ਦੋਸ਼ ਜਾਕੇ ਨਿਕਟ ਨ ਝਾਂਪੈ॥ Rog Dosh Jake Nikat Na Jhanpai

ਆਰਤੀ ਕੀਜੈ ਹਨੁਮਾਨ ਲਲਾ ਕੀ। … Aarti Kijai Hanuman Lala Ki … Refrain, sung again
Meaning
By his strength the greatest mountains tremble, and illness and misfortune dare not come near him. Anjana's son, giver of great strength, he is the Lord of the saintly and their constant helper.
Popular versions sing 'nikat na jhanke' ('dare not even peep near'); the Gita Press text reads 'jhanpai'.
ਦੇ ਬੀਰਾ ਰਘੁਨਾਥ ਪਠਾਯੇ। De Beera Raghunath Pathaye
ਲੰਕਾ ਜਾਰਿ ਸੀਯ ਸੁਧਿ ਲਾਯੇ॥ Lanka Jari Siya Sudhi Laye
ਲੰਕਾ ਸੋ ਕੋਟ ਸਮੁਦ੍ਰ ਸੀ ਖਾਈ। Lanka So Kot Samudra Si Khai

ਆਰਤੀ ਕੀਜੈ ਹਨੁਮਾਨ ਲਲਾ ਕੀ। … Aarti Kijai Hanuman Lala Ki … Refrain, sung again
Meaning
Shri Ram sent him forth with the betel leaf of honour; he burned Lanka and brought back news of Sita. Lanka was a mighty fortress with the ocean for its moat, yet the son of the Wind crossed it without a moment's delay.
'Beera' (bida) is the rolled betel leaf once given to a warrior who accepted a daring mission, as a mark of trust.
ਲੰਕਾ ਜਾਰਿ ਅਸੁਰ ਸੰਹਾਰੇ। Lanka Jari Asur Sanhare
ਸਿਯਾਰਾਮਜੀ ਕੇ ਕਾਜ ਸੰਵਾਰੇ॥ Siyaramji Ke Kaj Sanvare

ਆਨਿ ਸਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਉਬਾਰੇ॥ Aani Sajivan Pran Ubare
ਆਰਤੀ ਕੀਜੈ ਹਨੁਮਾਨ ਲਲਾ ਕੀ। … Aarti Kijai Hanuman Lala Ki … Refrain, sung again
Meaning
He burned Lanka, destroyed the demons and fulfilled the purpose of Sita and Ram. When Lakshman lay unconscious and dawn drew near, he brought the Sanjivani herb and saved his life.
Tradition says the herb had to arrive before sunrise for Lakshman to live. That is why the verse says 'sakare', at daybreak.
ਪੈਠਿ ਪਤਾਲ ਤੋਰਿ ਜਮ-ਕਾਰੇ। Paithi Patal Tori Jam Kare
ਅਹਿਰਾਵਨ ਕੀ ਭੁਜਾ ਉਖਾਰੇ॥ Ahiravan Ki Bhuja Ukhare
ਬਾਯੇਂ ਭੁਜਾ ਅਸੁਰ ਦਲ ਮਾਰੇ। Bayen Bhuja Asur Dal Mare
ਦਹਿਨੇ ਭੁਜਾ ਸੰਤਜਨ ਤਾਰੇ॥ Dahine Bhuja Santjan Tare
ਆਰਤੀ ਕੀਜੈ ਹਨੁਮਾਨ ਲਲਾ ਕੀ। … Aarti Kijai Hanuman Lala Ki … Refrain, sung again
Meaning
Entering the netherworld, he broke through bonds as deadly as Yama's and tore off the arms of Ahiravan. With his left arm he struck down the demon hosts; with his right he carried the saintly to safety.
In the Ahiravan episode the demon carries Ram and Lakshman off to the netherworld and Hanuman rescues them. The story is not in Valmiki's Ramayana; it comes from later Ramayana traditions. 'Jam-kare' is read either as Yama-like bonds or as guards.

ਆਰਤਿ ਕਰਤ ਅੰਜਨਾ ਮਾਈ॥ Aarti Karat Anjana Mai
ਆਰਤੀ ਕੀਜੈ ਹਨੁਮਾਨ ਲਲਾ ਕੀ। … Aarti Kijai Hanuman Lala Ki … Refrain, sung again
Meaning
Gods, humans and sages wave the aarti before him, crying 'Victory, victory, victory to Hanuman!' On a golden plate the camphor flame spreads its glow, as Mother Anjana herself performs his aarti.
ਜੋ ਹਨੁਮਾਨਜੀ ਕੀ ਆਰਤਿ ਗਾਵੈ। Jo Hanumanji Ki Aarti Gavai
ਬਸਿ ਬੈਕੁੰਠ ਪਰਮਪਦ ਪਾਵੈ॥ Basi Baikunth Param Pad Pavai
ਆਰਤੀ ਕੀਜੈ ਹਨੁਮਾਨ ਲਲਾ ਕੀ। … Aarti Kijai Hanuman Lala Ki … Refrain, sung again
Meaning
Whoever sings this aarti of Hanuman dwells in Vaikuntha and attains the highest state.
Gita Press prints 'Hanuman (ji)', the 'ji' being optional. Many popular recordings add a couplet here that is not in the Gita Press text: 'लंक विध्वंस किये रघुराई। तुलसीदास स्वामी कीरति गाई॥' (Lank vidhvans kiye Raghurai, Tulsidas swami kirati gai: 'Shri Ram destroyed Lanka; Tulsidas sings the glory of his Lord').
About Hanuman Aarti
An aarti is sung at the close of worship, while a lamp of camphor or ghee is waved in circles before the deity. Many homes and temples sing this aarti of Hanuman straight after the Hanuman Chalisa, and repeat the refrain 'Aarti kijai Hanuman lala ki' after each verse.
Questions
Is this the same Hanuman Aarti that is sung in Hindi?
Yes. These are the same Hindi words, written in Punjabi letters so you can read them aloud. It is a transliteration, not a translation into Punjabi. The meaning of each verse is given in English.
How was the Punjabi text prepared?
We keep one checked Devanagari edition (Shri Hanumanji ki Aarti, Gita Press Gorakhpur reading (appendix to Gita Press's Shri Ramcharitmanas; scanned copy on archive.org), cross-checked with bhaktibharat.com and hindi.webdunia.com) and write it in Punjabi letters with fixed spelling rules, so every verse matches the original letter for letter. The English-letter line is the common singing spelling.
