Kanakadhara Stotram
कनकधारा स्तोत्रम्
Kanakadhara Stotram is a Sanskrit hymn to Goddess Lakshmi that tradition credits to Adi Shankaracharya. In 18 verses it asks for Lakshmi's compassionate glance to fall on the devotee, and a closing verse says that one who recites it daily becomes like Kuber. Tradition says that when young Shankara first sang it for a poor woman, Lakshmi showered golden amla fruits on her house; people recite it on Fridays, Akshaya Tritiya and Diwali.

Questions
What is the story of Kanakadhara Stotram?
Tradition says young Shankara, on his round for alms, came to a very poor home where the woman had only one amla to give him. He sang this hymn to Lakshmi, and golden amlas rained on the house. That is where the name comes from: kanaka dhara, a stream of gold.
How many verses does Kanakadhara Stotram have?
The standard text has 18 verses, followed by a short phala verse. Some printed books add up to seven more verses, so you may see 21 or 25 in other places. This page gives the 18 and the phala verse.
Can I recite Kanakadhara Stotram on Diwali night after Lakshmi puja?
Yes. It is one of the most common Lakshmi stotras for Diwali, Dhanteras and Akshaya Tritiya, recited after the puja and before or after the aarti. It takes about eight minutes.
Does reciting Kanakadhara Stotram remove poverty?
Tradition says it brings Lakshmi's grace and relief from want, and the closing verse promises the reciter becomes like Kuber. These are matters of faith. The hymn itself mostly asks for compassion, and the story behind it is about a poor woman's generosity.
Source and review
Source: Kanakadhara Stotram, sanskritdocuments.org kanaka.itx (encoded and proofread by P. P. Narayanaswami and Kirk Wortman; verse order as in the Complete Works of Shankaracharya, vol. 18, p. 70); cross-checked line by line with "Prabhata Stotranidhi" (stotranidhi.com, Devanagari)
18 verses, the count and order shared by both sources, plus the phala verse "सुवर्णधारास्तोत्रं यच्छङ्कराचार्यनिर्मितम्" that many books print after verse 18. Left out: the opening Ganesha verse "वन्दे वन्दारुमन्दारम्" (sanskritdocuments only) and the extra verses that both sources mark as additions ("नमोऽस्तु हेमाम्बुजपीठिकायै", "नमोऽस्तु देव्यै भृगुनन्दनायै", "नमोऽस्तु कान्त्यै कमलेक्षणायै", "देवि प्रसीद जगदीश्वरि", "बिल्वाटवीमध्यलसत्सरोजे", "कमलासनपाणिना ललाटे", "अम्भोरुहं जन्मगृहं भवत्याः"). Readings where the sources differ: v1 "माङ्गल्यदास्तु" (stotranidhi; sanskritdocuments "माङ्गल्यदाऽस्तु", same sound); v2 "माला दृशोः" spaced (stotranidhi joins it); v3 "ईक्षणार्धम्" (sanskritdocuments; stotranidhi "ईक्षणार्थम्"); v6 "तडिदङ्गनेव" (sanskritdocuments; stotranidhi "तटिदङ्गनेव"); v8 "अस्मिन्नकिञ्चनविहङ्गशिशौ" (sanskritdocuments; stotranidhi divides "अस्मिन्न किञ्चन"); v16 "दिग्घस्तिभिः" (stotranidhi; sanskritdocuments "दिग् हस्तिभिः"); v18 "अमूभिः" (stotranidhi; sanskritdocuments "अमीभिः") and "भाग्यभागिनो" (sanskritdocuments; stotranidhi "भाग्यभाजिनो"). Where a compound runs across a line, stotranidhi uses hyphens with sandhi ("दक्ष- / -मानन्द"); we follow sanskritdocuments and write the words in full at the line break ("दक्षम् / आनन्द"), keeping a hyphen only inside a compound (v9, v16). Variants noted by sanskritdocuments: "गरुडध्वजभामिनीति" (v10), "सरोरुहाणि" (v13), "दुरितोत्तरणोद्यतानि" / "दुरितोद्धरणोद्यतानि" (v13). The attribution to Adi Shankaracharya is traditional.
